March 17, 2011

 

Present: Bevan Burgamy, Erin Warnock, Janey McDade, Greg Mahan, Coby Dixon, Tracy Norris, Jen Maraziti, Jennifer Graham, Paul Sanford, and Tammie Burke.

 

Regrets: Toi Franks, Liz Havey, Reese Cohn and Lori Strawder.

 

Guests: Joe Windish and Beth McCauley.

Call to order at 3:06 p.m.

 

Minutes from December, January, February unanimously approved.

 

Treasurers Report:

State: $5,477.47

Foundation: $2,839.88

 

Committee Reports-

University Senate:

-          RPIPC:

Staff council and HR are looking into shared leave options. Shared Leave forums are scheduled for:

Tues March 29th at 10:00 a.m. Peabody Auditorium

Wed March 30th at 2:00 p.m. in A&S Auditorium

 

-          SAPC:

No new information.

 

Bylaws:

Lori Strawder submitted the names of the FY 2012 senators to Ken McGill.

Voting Senators: Jen Maraziti, Toi Franks, Liz Havey, and Greg Mahan.

Non-Voting senators: Jennifer Graham and Beth McCauley.

 

Communications:

Due to complications with the fall newsletter, the committee has decided to do a spring newsletter that will include Staff Appreciation week pictures.

 

Executive Committee:
No new report.

 

Special Projects:

Working on staff appreciation week. The schedule (as of now) is as follows:

Monday 4/18 Breakfast in LITC atrium.

Tuesday 4/19 BodyFlow in Centennial Center

Wednesday 4/20 Skillpath Workshops:

            - How to Become a Better Communicator

            - Managing Emotions and Thriving Under Pressure

Thursday 4/21 Staff Excellence Awards at 2:00 p.m. in the Magnolia Ballroom.

Ice Cream Social immediately following the awards ceremony.

 

Suggestion: to create a video/slideshow highlighting pictures of staff across campus.

 

Question about Ed Weimer doing a follow up visit from the previous seminar he gave last month, possibly a workshop to offer Friday afternoon.

 

Suggestion for Friday, lemonade social on porch of Atkinson and staff picture. Staff to wear GC apparel.

 

Staff Development:

Eating Healthy While on A Budget March 24th at 3:00 p.m. in the Museum Education Room. Amy Whatley will be speaking and the workshop will be videoed for those who cannot make it to the event.

 

Sustainability Committee:

Earthfest is April 16-21st.

 

Old Business:

Painting Paw for Cause - Beth McCauley will make sure barricades are available during spring break. A date and time will be chosen and an email will be sent out to let everyone know when we can paint.  

 

Meeting Time & Attendance- Kim Gore has resigned due to a heavy workload that does not give her time to fulfill her staff council responsibilities.

We have been having an issue not meeting quorum due to a lack of attendance. What are things that need to change to increase attendance?

 

-          Suggestion to get emails the day before a meeting.

-          Suggestion to ask people that are having the most difficulty attending.

Jen is going to contact people that are having trouble attending to ask for suggestions and also remind people to send regrets if they know they cannot make the meeting.

 

New Business:

State Staff Council Representative-

The current policy in the bylaws is for the past chair to act as the representative for state staff council meetings and events.

There is a suggestion to alter the bylaws so the state staff council representative will be someone who is a current delegate.

Suggestion: The current chair and vice chair (as back up).

Recommendation for the representative to be the vice chair person.

Jen will partner with Lori Strawder to look into potential bylaw changes.

 

State Staff Council Meeting Report (Joe Windish):

State Conference at UGA on October 5 & 6th at the GA Center.

Registration is $70, the focus is on customer service.

The new chancellor will be the keynote speaker.

There will be some scholarships.
