Staff Council Minutes
Thursday, March 18, 2010

In attendance: Clyde Boone, Jr., Bevan Burgamy, Toi Franks, Kim Gore, Jennifer Graham, Liz Havey, Jen Maraziti, Janey McDade, Suzy Michel, Tracy Norris, Mandy Peacock, Lori Strawder, Patti Veal, Patti Weimer, Erin Weston, Joe Windish

Guests: Casey Cone

1. The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. in Chappell Hall 113.
2. Casey Cone did a brief presentation on CPS# (Cancer Prevention Survey #3) in honor of Relay for Life. Casey stated this is a study to determine the likelihood of developing cancer based on life behaviors. She passed around a signup sheet for those interested in participating in the 20+ year study. All interested participants would have their height/weight measurements calculated and a blood sample drawn.
3. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved unanimously.
Treasurer Report:
Toi Franks reported that there is currently a balance of $5538.00 in the State Funded Account. The Foundation Account total is $2,598.76. Toi stated that all requests for staff development funds be made before April 15.
4. Committee Reports:
Communications * Erin Weston stated she should be submitting the copy for the enewsletter to Barbara Monnett within the next day or two.

Staff Development * Toi emphasized submitting Staff Development fund requests no later than April 15.

Events - Lots of work is going into the planning of the Staff Appreciation Week, scheduled tentatively for the week of April 19 - 23.
The tentative schedule of events is as follows:
Monday, April 19th - Staff Breakfast - 9 - 11 am Library Atrium * 2 p.m. Workshop
Tuesday, April 20th - Staff Bowling Night * Still in question - 10 a.m. Workshop * 2 p.m. Workshop
Wednesday, April 21st * Breakfast Reception 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. in MSU Dining Room
*Doing More with Less* Workshop * 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (MSU Dining Room) and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (West Campus Center)
Staff Picnic at the Baseball Game 4 pm (Dinner begins at 5 pm)
Thursday, April 22nd * 10 a.m. Workshop 2 p.m. Workshop * Open House at Campus Theatre
Friday, April 23rd - 10 a.m. Workshop 1 p.m. Staff Excellence Awards followed by ice cream social
The idea of printed invitations on colored paper to be delivered to all staff was suggested. Erin Weston suggested this might be a good time to begin *branding* Staff Council*s image. Bevan Burgamy felt this is a good idea only waiting until next year because of time limitations.

Bylaws/Election ** Lori Strawder stated that everyone will be receiving a draft of Bylaw edits via email. Everyone should read the edits and be prepared to discuss them at the next scheduled Staff Council meeting. Jen Maraziti stressed these were *clean-up* changes, i.e. dates, edits, etc.

5. Report from Chairperson: Joe Windish reported on his recent meeting with Mainstreet regarding guaranteed lunch hours at participating restaurants. Currently there are 2 that are participating, Deano*s and Pig in a Pit. Janey McDade asked how other restaurants would guarantee lunch in 1 hr. Joe stated this is all preliminary and details need to be worked out as well as the possibility of additional restaurants participating being added.
