Present: Clyde Boone, Jr, Toi Franks, Maria Gordon, Karen Higgs, Neil Jones, Erin Lineberger, Jen Maraziti, Stacey Milner, Virginia Simmons, Lee Snelling, Bessie Storey, Lori Strawder, Lori Watson, Patti Weimer, Joe Windish, and Jamie Wright

Guests: Maria Andrade, Greg Brown, Faye Heal, Barbara Monnett, Janie Dunn, and Erin Weston

Call to order: Karen Higgs called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m.

Approval of the minutes: A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the minutes of the September meeting as written.

Committee reports:
a) Treasurer•s Report (Jamie Wright): The balance in the general account is $6796.23. The balance in the foundation account is $2883.52.
b) Nominations & Elections: No report at this time
c) Staff Development & Communications (Julia Huprich): No report at this time
d) Staff Excellence Award (Stacey Milner): Stacey confirmed the date, December 14, 2007 at 9:00 a.m., of the next Staff Excellence Award ceremony with Dr. Leland•s calendar. The committee will select the recipient of the award on December 4 at 3:00 p.m. in 205 Parks Hall. Any Staff Council delegate that is interested in being a part of the selection process is encouraged to attend this meeting.
e) Bylaws (Joe Windish): Joe presented the proposed changes to the bylaws. Several issues were raised including the need to define the bylaws committee, define how members of the Staff Development & Communications committee are appointed, setting a specific time to take an official count of each division, and the frequency of meetings. Joe will take the concerns raised at the meeting back to the committee.
f) Adoption of Holiday Family (Lori Watson): Lori will send an email to all committee members to schedule a meeting one day next week to finalize the details.
g) Campus Connections (Lori Watson): This program is tied to the Training Specialist position currently advertised in Human Resources. No report at this time
h) Special Projects (Jamie Wright): Sodexho•s can food drive is coming up. Anyone interested in participating should email Jamie at jamie.wright@gcsu.edu.
i) PTAC (Patti Weimer): Temporary handicap parking hangtags are now available through Mike Chambers (Disability Services-133 Maxwell Student Union) or Alice Loper (Student Health Services-222 Beeson Hall). Please contact these individuals for more information regarding the documentation and verification process. The bus stop shelters were approved. The project will move forward once the locations for the shelters are determined. The crosswalk located at the exit of the Ennis Hall parking lot is still on the committee•s agenda and discussion regarding this issue is in progress.

Reports from the chairperson: No report at this time

Old Business:
a) Staff Forum: Delegates discussed ways to encourage attendance at open forums. Ideas included more aggressive marketing via email, offering door prizes, having a panel of administrators available to field questions from various divisions across campus, offering more than one day/time to meet to accommodate varying schedules, coordinating smaller meetings with a personal invitation from the President, and advertising the event on The Info Page.

New Business:
a) 2009 State Staff Council conference (Stacey Milner): Georgia College & State University is scheduled to host the 2009 State Staff Council conference. Any Staff Council delegate interested in serving on the planning committee should contact Stacey Milner (stacey.milner@gcsu.edu) or Karen Higgs (karen.higgs@gcsu.edu).
b) ConnectEd (Barbara Monnett): In light of the Virginia Tech tragedies, GCSU is launching Connect-ED, a new service that can keep you informed of severe weather and campus emergencies by sending text messages directly to your cell phone. Barbara distributed flyers detailing the program, along with frequently asked questions. Tables will be set up next week (Monday-Arts & Sciences Fountain, Tuesday-Bobcat Court, and Wednesday-West Campus) to assist individuals with the registration process.
c) Trick or treating event (Jen Maraziti): The event will be held Friday, October 26 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the dorms along Greene Street. Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the event.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m. Regularly scheduled meeting are: November 29, December 20, January 24, February 28, March 27, April 24, May 22, and June 26. All meetings are scheduled at 3:00 p.m. in the Bobcat Dining Room. Other meetings may be added as needed and regularly scheduled meetings may be changed in the event of scheduling conflicts.
