1. Welcome and Introductions

Chris Brown, Media Productions has asked to be taken off the committee due to time demands.

2. Overview of PCRUA and Best Practices

This was the first meeting of this committee. Background information on the President's Council on the Responsible Use of Alcohol on the Responsible Use of Alcohol and the four subcommittees was provided and the role of the Best Practices Committee was shared.

3. Barbara Funke provided an overview of existing and proposed programs.
Existing:
*GOHS grants
*P.A.W.S. (Peers Advocating Wellness Successfully)
*NCAAW and Safe Spring Break Programming
*WOW
*Presentations to classes, residence halls
Proposed/Considered programs:
*AlcoholEdu
*NCAA CHOICES grant
*Alcohol Website
*Birthday cards for 21 year olds with prevention messages
*TIPS training
*Alcohol free events
*Challenging positive expectancies
*Normative Beliefs

Discussion pertaining to above:
*AlcoholEdu may be helpful for students who have decided not to drink or have decided to drink responsibly. It is less likely to impact at-risk students or high-risk drinkers.
*Eve Puckett would like to be trained in PRIME for Life on Campus and offered to conduct the program for repeat alcohol violators. This would fit in very well with her judicial role and it would take this out of Counseling Services. It was agreed that sanctions belong in another area other than Counseling to help keep the perception of Counseling Services of where one goes for help not punishment.
*The birthday cards concept was not supported due to reports of this being utilized in a way that may facilitate drinking; specifically bars will give a free drink if you show your University-sent birthday card.
*Eve Puckett agreed to attend the TIPS training in February. She will complete the application and contact Dr. Harshbarger who will pay for the training.
*Other discussion on enforcement and policies but this does not apply to our subcommittees charge.

Next Meeting: TBA

Respectfully submitted: Barbara Funke, January 30, 2006
